HVED Program: SAIL Program
Kellogg, MN (Federal Setting IV Behavior Program)
Description:
The SAIL (Students Achieve Integrative Learning) Program, at Hiawatha Valley Education District (HVED), currently located in Kellogg, MN, is a specialized special education level 4 school designed to support students with significant behavioral needs. The program is specifically tailored to help students who face challenges with behavior regulation, social interactions, and emotional self-management. The SAIL Program offers a structured environment where students receive individualized interventions aimed at promoting both academic and personal growth.
Through targeted behavioral interventions and customized educational strategies, the program seeks to support students in developing key skills such as self-regulation, social interactions, and emotional management. The program places a strong emphasis on equipping students with tools to manage their emotions and behaviors, allowing them to engage more successfully with peers, educators, and the school environment.
In addition to behavior management, the SAIL Program offers opportunities for students to build life skills, including decision-making, conflict resolution, and behavioral skill building. These areas of focus help students work towards greater independence and success within the school setting.
A critical aspect of the SAIL Program is the collaborative approach between educators, behavioral specialists, paraprofessionals, Children's Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS), other licensed professionals and families. This teamwork ensures that each student’s needs are addressed holistically and consistently across all areas of their development. The program works toward reintegrating students back into their resident school districts once they have developed the necessary skills and confidence to succeed in a less restrictive environment.
